Revisit special moments in UConn sports history
After this week’s game, UConn women’s basketball has now played Tennessee 24 times, with the Huskies holding a 15-9 series lead. The win is UConn’s second in a row over the Volunteers, but Tennessee had won the last three before that as they closed out the prior chapter of the rivalry in emphatic fashion.
Over the years, there have been plenty of legendary players on both sides of the ball and the prolific programs have a combined 19 national championships between them (UConn 11, Tennessee 8). And while the players and teams have certainly provided no shortage of entertainment, this rivalry would be nothing without coaches Geno Auriemma and Pat Summitt being at the forefront of it all.
